MP3Gain is software developed by Glen Sawyer. The software is a utility tool that is used for normalizing audio by analyzing and reversibly changing its volume. The volume change can be made for a single file and also for more than one file in a batch or album so that all the files in the album have the same perceived volume or loudness. The implementation of the software is the same as that of ReplayGain. In 2015, Ubuntu and Debian removed the software from their respective repositories due to a lack of an individual active maintainer.
MP3Gain is written in C and is available for multiple platforms in various languages such as Chinese (both traditional and simplified), Spanish, Polish, English, Japanese, Greek, etc. The software is available with the GNU Lesser General Public License (LGPL) v2.1+, and the software being open-sourced is present in a repository in SourceForge. MP3Gain works by first computing the required gain in the loudness or volume adjustment, which is competed on the basis of per track or per album, using the same algorithm as the ReplyGain. After the analyzing part is down, the software then modifies the MP3 file’s each frame according to the analyzed information. It then saves the undoing information as a meta tag of the format ID3v2 or APEv2, resulting in a reversible process. The software also enables you to reverse the process with the tag, and the tag is then removed.
Features
- MP3Gains is different than other programs that provide similar functions because it not only takes the normalization to the maximum but also uses a statistical analysis system to do so.
- It uses the statics from analyzing the sound of the music and also the fact that how loud it would be in the human ear.
- MP3Gain also provides you with a lossless normalization process because it does not change the codec of the MP3 music like other software that does de-coding and then re-coding.
